Mary Landis is a native Coloradoan, born and raised in southeastern Colorado. She has lived in Loveland, Colorado for the past 25 years and has been developing her drawing and painting skills since her early childhood. After spending many years in the business profession, Mary changed careers to fulfill a lifetime dream of making art and becoming a professional artist. Her passion lies in painting the Rocky Mountain and Southwest regions.
Mary's paintings, whether landscapes, still-lifes or murals, are depicted with translucent color, echoing shapes, and dancing shadows with oils, watercolors, or pastels. Plein air painting enables her to capture the mood, temperature and atmosphere of the day and incorporate it into her landscape paintings to transfer to the viewer, a similar outdoor sensation.
Mary studied art at Colorado State University, the Art Academy of Loveland, and with many nationally known artists. Participation in art exhibitions nationally and locally, as well as volunteering for community art programs, has kept her busy in the art world. Mary's works are distributed in personal and corporate collections throughout the United States, Canada and Brazil. While Mary is not painting, she spends her time teaching classes at her studio as well as McKee Medical Cancer Center. She has taught children at the "Shadow of the Arts" program for elementary/high school students and at the Loveland Museum's "Art After School" program.
